Joseph Thompson (Joe Tom) Walker, 85, of Memphis, MO passed away early Friday morning, Dec. 19, 2014, at the Scotland County Hospital in Memphis. The son of Morris and Roxibelle Kaiser Walker he was born February 4, 1929 in Scotland County, Missouri. He married Jean Ferris May 17, 1963 and they lived south of Memphis on Highway 15 until 1990 when they moved into town.
He spent his lifetime here in the area working different places as a truck driver working for Pepsi Bottling Co., Kaisers at Kahoka, MO, hauling lime for James Cone, and hauled rock for the Scotland County Road and Bridge Crew.
Some of his interests in his spare time was doing things with his family, going hunting and fishing, taking care of his yard and working with wood, making shelves, tables, and other furniture crafting it to his perfection. He liked to take time to visit with anyone sharing his thoughts, his hobbies, and the world's problems with his family and whoever else that came by and wanted to visit. He was lifetime member of the V.F W. Post #4958 and the Presbyterian Church of Memphis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Kenneth and Bill Walker, a sister, Alice White, a grandson, William David Curry, a sister-in-law, Imogene Walker, two brother-in-laws, John Foley and Joe Ed Biggs.
Surviving relatives include his wife of 51 years, Jean Walker of the home in Memphis; five children, Donald (Mary) Brumback of Lake Charles, LA, Reta (Ronnie) Sourwine of Palm Bay, FL, Beverley (Denny) Schmidt of Clive, IA, Margaret (Jim) Curry of Memphis, MO and Bill Brumback of Burlington, IA; nine grandchildren, David, Clifford and Ryan Brumback, Larry, David and Jimmy Curry, Scott Woodsmall, Tyler and Tom Schmidt; nineteen great grandchildren, his brother Mike Walker; two sisters, Shirley Biggs and Maryann Foley, one brother-in-law, Donnie White along with several nieces and nephews.
Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Foundation and may be let at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison St., Memphis, MO 63555.
