Francis Donald "Don" Pence, 86, of Memphis, Missouri, passed away early Thursday morning, February 9, 2017, at his home west of Memphis. The son of Lee and Nova Tibbs Pence, he was born May 4, 1930, at Gorin, Missouri. Don attended the South Liberty and Gorin schools, graduating in 1949. After graduation, he began farming and always took great pride in his farm and home. He was also employed through the years by Ayers Oil Company, MFA Insurance and drove a school bus.Don and Mildred Erickson were married at the Gorin Methodist Church on November 4, 1951. They moved to their current farm in 1953, and were the proud parents of three children. Being a long time member of the Memphis United Methodist church, Don also enjoyed various activities throughout his life, including many long distance motorcycle trips, square dancing with the Kalico Klickers, Bloomfield, Iowa, and coffee and pool with the boys. Survivors include daughter Phyllis Allsbury and her husband, Richard, of Jefferson City, Missouri, sons, Eric Pence and his wife, Karen, of Ashland, Missouri, and Mitchell Pence and his wife, Kathy, of Memphis. There are six grandchildren, Landon Pence and his wife, Alyssa, of Kirksville, Melia Pence, of Kansas City, Laura Pence, of Springfield, Alaina Allsbury, of Jefferson City, Lane Pence, of Memphis, and Adam Allsbury, of Jefferson City. There is also one great-granddaughter, Harper Pence, of Kirksville. Also surviving is one sister-in-law, Vera Monroe, of Memphis. Don was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Doris Dalee Droege, Dolores Jean Armstrong, and Leanna Jo Garrett. Memorials in his memory are suggested to the Memphis United Methodist Church.
