Betty "Jean" Laird

Betty Jean Daniels Laird was born in La Plata, MO on January 13, 1924. She was the daughter of Guy Vernon and Hattie Idona Patterson Daniels.

Jean attended Brashear High School and graduated in 1941. She then attended MSTC (now Truman State University). On September 30, 1945 in Gibbs she married Harry Leon Laird of Kirksville, MO. They moved to Memphis in 1946 and owned and operated a jewelry store until 1972.

Survivors include her son, Steve (Kathy) Laird of Burlington, IA, daughter, Beth (Mark) Grant of Colorado Springs, CO, four grandchildren, Stephanie (John) Dodge of Burlington, IA, Darin Laird of Johnston, IA, Mark (Jennifer) Grant II of Fountain, CO, Sarah Grant and fiance Chris of Colorado Springs, CO and four great granddaughters.

Jean was preceded in death by her father in 1970, mother in 1986 and her husband in 1977.

Memorials in lieu of flowers are suggested to the Scotland County Care Center and can be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison St., Memphis, MO, 63555.
