Ronald Floyd Brown, 77, of Memphis, MO passed away Monday, July 20, 2020, at Scotland County Hospital following a brief illness with his family by his side. Ronnie was born January 10, 1943, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. the son of Floyd and Dorothy Spees Brown. His grandparents Rolla and Edna Spees raised him on a farm north of Downing, MO. He attended Spees and Brush Creek rural schools and graduated from Downing High School in 1961.
On May 21, 1961, he married Linda Tague, and to this union, three sons were born: Kurt, Doug and Craig. Ronnie farmed with his uncle Keith Lister at Stiles, Iowa and later started working as a heavy equipment operator and was involved with building Interstate 80, the Memphis Airport, and the New Memphis Lake. In addition, he worked as a Scotland County Farm Bureau Agent, Pepsi Cola Bottling, and was an over-the-road truck driver for many years.
In 1990, Ronnie married Judy Dennis of Higbee, MO and he had a great influence on the life of her two sons, Tim and Jim. On September 1, 2000, Ronnie married Peggy Westhoff. Ronnie and Peggy moved to the farm in Memphis where he built an air strip and many ponds. He enjoyed having his own hanger and airstrip on the farm where he could be seen flying in and out on a regular basis. Ronnie was instrumental in bringing the Pheasant airplane home to Memphis where it was manufactured in 1928. In 2018, he received the Wright Brothers Master Pilot award in recognition of his safe aircraft flight for 50 years. Ronnie was a member of the Scotland County Historical Society, a long-time member of the Glen Wiley Pilots Association, and a member of the Short-Wing Piper Club. He was an avid Oliver tractor collector and a collector of antique road graders. Ronnie was baptized at the Gorin Baptist Church. Ronnie and Peggy faithfully attended the Downing Christian Church.
Ronnie was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, a son Kurt Allen Brown, a grandson, Zack Brown, a sister Tammy Mast, and a brother Jeff Brown.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy, of the home, two sons Douglas W. Brown and Fianc'ee, (Renee) Lotter, and Craig D. Brown, a daughter-in-law Donna Brown (Jeff) Wyatt, two step-sons Scott (Angela) Westhoff, and Stacy Westhoff of Memphis, MO. Also surviving are three sisters: Rose Coffman, Judy(Chinaman) Brown, Suzanne (Dave) Greer, one brother Sam Followwill, a sister-in-law Denni Brown, and a brother-in-law Rollon Mast, his step-mother Charlotte Brown, Keota, IA, eight grandchildren: Colby, Emily, Audrey, Arron, Joey, Seth, and Jace Brown, and Fallon (Shaun) Guthrie and five step-grandchildren, Megan (Kenneth) Hamilton, Shelby (Will) Lemon, Ashley (Cody) Holt, Kaci Cantril, and Trevor Westhoff, two great-grandchildren, six step great-grandchildren as well as an aunt, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many great friends. Ronnie never met a stranger and will always be remembered as a very patient, kind and giving man.
Memorials in lieu of flowers are suggested to the Pheasant Airplane fund in care of Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison St., Memphis, MO 63555.
